🚌 Hotel Bustay 🚌
“Because you’ve always wanted to sleep on a bus.”
Welcome to Hotel Bustay in Nishi-Izu, a region of Shizuoka located just across the peninsula from Ito City. And I know what you’re thinking: “Oh boy am I tired of sleeping in the safe and modern comfort of modern hotels. Why can’t I recreate my morning commute on vacation as well?” Well, we’ve got you covered.
This decommissioned bus was turned into a stationary hotel by Tokai Jidosha Co. in order to promote tourism and leisurely travel in the area currently dealing with a declining population issue. Starting at around 300USD for an entire group of 5 (not bad at all!), up to three people can sleep in the bus parked outside of the old 1950s wooden bus-stop building while 2 other guests can sleep inside the attached bus station in proper beds.
The refurbished station also has a clean, modern bathroom and toilet, with an iPad for check-in/out. The old waiting room also serves as a dining room now for the ultimate retro-experience. Definitely off the beaten path and definitely a unique experience we’d highly recommend.
